Shields up! Protect your skin this summer with FIT’s new Sun Protect Serum

unspecifiedFor men, the quest to find the perfect sunscreen isn’t always as straightforward as one might think. With our skin both oilier and hairier than women’s, the texture and stickiness of products if often a deciding ‘factor’ (if you’ll forgive the pun) in our choices; the ideal product being something that offers high SPF, broad-spectrum protection but which is lightweight, non-greasy and transparent on the skin. And

in terms of what men need from their suncare FIT Skincare‘s new Sun Protect Serum is a product that ticks every box.

FIT SUN PROTECT 2 (1)The first sunscreen serum created for men, it offers a broad spectrum, five star UVA rated, SPF 50 sunscreen to protect you from both the sun’s burning UVB rays and the UVA ones that age your skin; it leaves absolutely no greasy or unsightly white residue (if anything it leaves skin with a matte finish) and has a barely there fragrance that vanishes altogether after a couple of minutes. This last bit is a big bonus in my book since I’ve worn sun products in the past that smelt of everything from Digestive biscuits to – nightmarishly – curry powder. The scent of one I road-tested a couple of years ago mysteriously attracted so many flies I looked like Pig Pen from Peanuts!

FIT SUN PROTECT 2 (2)On top of these pluses FIT’s Sun Protect Serum uses cutting-edge ‘micro encapsulation technology’ that helps provide more evenly spread protection and also  contains antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and FIT’s unique OXY-FIT-10 oxygen delivery system – a few bonus features that help defend against the dehydrating and DNA-damaging effects of the sun. In terms of summer skincare it way well be your ultimate defence shield.

Czech & Speake’s Oxford & Cambridge Shower Wash & Body Lotion Duo: ridiculously cute

czech & speake lavenderAt £25 for two 65ml bottles Czech & Speake’s Oxford & Cambridge Shower Wash & Body Lotion Duo isn’t cheap but if you’re a lover of luxury and superb fragrance this delightfully dinky travel set is the ultimate addition to your weekend washbag. The cologne spray itself – a finely balanced blend of French lavender, Peppermint, Rosemary and Bergamot essential oils –  is probably my favourite lavender fragrance (it’s one of the few that doesn’t leave you smelling like your nan’s knicker drawer) and I take a travel-sized bottle with me almost everywhere. If you’re already a fan or, once you’ve tried it, about to become one, these additions to the range will be your new grooming essentials. But probably not your nan’s. Which is a relief.

Czech & Speake’s Oxford & Cambridge Shower Wash & Body Lotion Duo is available here.

When in Boston….

aesop-kit-boston-travel-essentials
Having recently spent five days of a two week holiday in the US in the wonderful city of Boston, it seemed only natural that for that portion of my stay I should have packed this appropriately named urban travel kit from Aesop.

From now on, the wonderful smell of its Geranium Leaf Body Cleanser and citrus Rind Concentrate Body Cleanser will remind me of the amazing roof top apartment we rented in the city’s up-and-coming South End district.

The great thing about this set (apart from the fact that everything comes in a handy little case) is that the the sizes are absolutely perfect – so perfect that after my stay I was left with virtually nothing to lug back home. Beyond how wonderful everything  smells, like all Aesop products, the kit looks super-cool too. Which is just as well because, with temperatures in the high 80s, the weather that week was anything but.

In-flight essentials

TRAVELIf you’re wondering why I’ve been quiet for the last few weeks it’s because I’ve been on holiday in the US. But I’m back now (if heavily jet-lagged) and over the next few days I’ll have a few special travel-themed posts.

I have to confess, I’m not known for travelling light (my grooming essentials alone could fill a small suitcase and I’ll post about some of those in the next few days) but I’m remarkably economical with what I take onto planes. As you can see from the pic above I travelled exceptionally light this time, taking just two little lifesavers onto my Virgin Atlantic flight to Boston.

The first was a dinky 15ml Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm which is great for moisturising skin but which also gives it a bit of lift – useful when you look like you’ve been up all night (which I had been). I usually take their fantastic Time For Men S.O.S Survival Cream – which is super hydrating – but this sample sized Flash Balm seemed perfect the journey. I also popped a retaW Lip Balm in my liquids bag as my lips are always the first thing to feel the effects of dry cabin air.

Anyway, if you have any essentials you like to take on planes, let me know. Would love to hear what your must-haves are.

Molton Brown’s Men’s Traveller – don’t leave home without it.

Getting all your grooming gear together for a trip away can be a nightmare, especially if you don’t want to be lugging huge bottles of shampoo, body wash and tubes of moisturiser around. So I’ll make it easy for you – just invest in this travel kit from Molton Brown. It contains seven useful travel essentials (including a dinky version of their legendary re-charge black pepper body wash which is a brilliant for jet-lag) and a useful pocket-sized Cool Buchu eau de toilette spray. Just don’t mistake it for a breath-freshener. As I did.

The Molton Brown Traveller costs £40. For more info go to www.moltonbrown.co.uk
