Create your own meteor shower tonight

It’s one of my favourite annual events this weekend – the spectatular Perseid Meteor Shower. On a good year you can see up to 200 shooting stars an hour, which is a lot of wishes you can make if you believe seeing one happens to be lucky. If it’s too cloudy to see them where you are, though, I suppose you could always create you own little display at home with BLAQ’s new Meteor Shower shower scrub.

The final frontier in exfoliation (it actually contains meteorite dust) it also features sea salt and activated charcoal to help remove impurities. It’s also designed to leave a slight iridescent glow on the skin though don’t fret is leaving the house with glittery shoulders isn’t your thing – I found that the sparkle is minimal if you rinse thoroughly. The good news is that it’s 100% biodegradable, devoid of additives and preservatives and is cruelty-free too. What more could you wish (upon a star) for this weekend?

Blaq Meteor Shower is available from blaq.co, priced £19.95 for a resealable pack

Grooming Guru Essentials: Heyland & Whittle Olive & Fig Soap

HEYLAND & WHITTLEI make no excuses for the fact that I am faintly obsessed by body soaps. And I’m very fussy about what graces the side of my bath. Anyway, this wonderful, palm-sized Heyland & Whittle Olive & Fig Organic Soap is what you might call my latest squeeze – if a slippery squeeze. Made from 100% organic ingredients it’s figgy, slightly peppery and very, very ‘green’ smelling. In fact, it really reminds me of the wonderful cut stem aroma that hits you whenever you walk into a decent florists. At £6 it isn’t ridiculously expensive either and it’s Made in England. Recommended.

Paul Edmonds launches bodycare range.

Paul Edmonds Fig Bodywash £18 www.pauledmonds.comGiven the choice between a bath and shower I always choose a bath. Showers, to me, are rather perfunctory affairs, whereas a bath is ritualistic and more satisfying. And currently adding a few bubbles to my bath water is this Black Pearl & Green Fig Body Wash from acclaimed hairdresser Paul Edmonds. Launching later this month to coincide with his 30 years in the industry, it’s part of a brand new luxury body care range, and it smells fantastic –  crisp and ‘green’ without being sickly sweet in the way that some fig products can be. What’s more, it works just as well as a bubble bath as a body wash. Well worth investigating.

Available later this month from the Paul Edmonds salon in Knightsbridge and on pauledmonds.com, priced £18 for 300ml.

The Lynx Manwasher – the ultimate shower tool for men

If there’s one thing you can say about Lynx it’s that they’ve never stopped being witty, clever and innovative. Their advertising has always pushed the envelope (the fallen angels remains one of my fave grooming ads) as have their products.

And now, in that spirit, the team at Lynx have developed the ultimate shower tool for men: The Lynx Manwasher. An easy to use, dual-sided shower accessory, the Manwasher makes for a brilliant, palm-sized body exfoliator, replacing cumbersome luffas and brushes, and can be used in conjunction with Lynx shower gels to ensure you get squeaky clean.

One side features a textured scrubbing pad (making it perfect for tackling tough skin on heels, elbows and knees) while the other has a lathering micro-mesh “scrunchie” which ensures you get the most out of your shower gel. Not only does it help whip up a fantastic lather (making your gel go further in the process) it also gently removes dead skin cells, polishing skin and leaving it smooth, soft and conditioned.

So whether you’re scrubbing up for an important date, interview or after a muddy Saturday afternoon five-aside the Lynx Manwasher is the perfect way to feel clean, confident and 100% fresh.

The Lynx Manwasher is available at retailers nationwide priced £3.99. For more information, special offers and other fun Lynx stuff go to www.facebook.com/lynxeffect

Fly the flag with some soap-on-a-rope!

Perhaps because of my age I’ve always been a huge fan of soap on a rope. There’s something deliciously Seventies Love-God about it. These days, however, they’re harder to come by than a competent plumber.

How about this whopper from Heathcoate & Ivory then? Weighing in at an impressive 300g (i.e big) it’s scented – but not overly so – with sweet basil, fennel, lime, bergamot and orange and hags beautifully on your shower knob. And just look at the patriotic packaging! What’s not to like?

Heathcote & Ivory’s Soap-On-a-Rope costs £7 and is available from www.heathcote-ivory.com

Grooming Guru Essentials: Molton Brown Re-Charge Black Pepper Body Wash

There are few grooming products I can honestly say have iconic status but this incredibly popular body is certainly on its way towards becoming one of them. Winning plaudits right, left and centre (it was voted Best Bodycare product by Men’s Health readers last year) this fantastically aromatic and spicy body wash does exactly what it says on the tin (or bottle).  I love it because it doesn’t smell remotely girlie, lathers-up a treat and is a brilliant wake-up call for tired skin. And that’s before you take into account its detoxifying and circulation boosting properties…

Grooming Guru Essentials are the products I genuinely love and have used as part of my own routine.

wakey, wakey!

Pep-Up_Body_Cleanser_72dpiFinding a decent shower gel might not seem like the most pressing priority in the world but when it’s 7.30am and you need to start the day in the right mood it can make all the difference.

My current favourite is this new wake-up call from Australian skincare brand Natio. Just launched over here, their Pep-Up Body Cleanser is a superb way to start the morning.

Packed with natural ingredients like organic ginko biloba, lemongrass, peppermint and eucalyptus it’s one of the best shower gels I’ve smelt in ages and doesn’t leave your skin feeling dry or  tight either. News is a dedicated men’s range is on its way too so watch this space.

Natio Pep-Up Body Cleanser is available from Debenhams priced £8 for 210 ml.
