Eye on the ball: Anthony release grooming product for ‘down below’

Anthony No Sweat Body DefenseIt’s not a grooming problem that’s often discussed but getting sweaty down below is no fun for a man, especially if skin starts to chafe and becomes sore and inflamed. In the last few years skincare companies have realised there’s a market for products that can address this issue, however, and the latest product to tackle the issue of, erm, uncomfortable tackle comes from cult US brand Anthony.

A bit like a liquid talc No Sweat Body Defence creates a powder-like barrier on the skin to keep your bits comfortable and dry. It does so with the help of tapioca starch rather than talc and though there’s a fragrance it’s not so heavy that you might come across as someone who’s desperately trying to mask something.

Having road-tested it myself (don’t think too much about that) I can attest to the fact that it’s a great way to keep your boys feeling fresh and dry. It does leave a slight powdery residue if you use a lot (wear white pants if you’re worried) but otherwise this is an excellent piece of grooming kit to have in your gym bag or to have at hand if you’re pounding the streets all day or are heading out clubbing after work. Beats suffering from batwing balls* anyway.

Anthony No Sweat Body Defense is available exclusively online from SPACENK priced £20 for 90ml.

Time to be resolute about body care

aesopGiven how useless men are at protecting the skin on their body I’m always happy to promote the use of body moisturisers and balms. I mean, if you take the time to look after the skin on your face it doesn’t really make sense not to look after the stuff on the rest of you with just as much care and attention. If that seems like a bit of a chore, though, why not turn it into a pleasure with this new Resolute Hydrating Body Balm from Aesop?

I say ‘pleasure’ because unlike some body products I’ve used this particular balm is hydrating without being greasy, is quickly absorbed (useful if you’re thinking of using it after showering at the gym) and, thanks to corriander seeds, black pepper and patchouli, it smells fantastic without being overpowering. Slather some on and your skin won’t just feel better it’ll smell a whole lot better, too, so make sure it’s on your Autumn ‘to buy’ list.

Exclusive: Bulldog launch Original Body Lotion for men

BULLDOG BODY LOTIONMen might have come a long way in terms of looking after their faces but in many respects their bodies are the Amazon forest of male grooming: a largely unexplored territory and one in desperate need of preservation. So it’s a real joy to see one of my favourite British skincare brands, Bulldog, launch their Original Body Lotion for men.

Formulated with skin-saving aloe vera, cocoa butter and avocado oil and lightly fragranced with a blend of eight essential oils it hydrates skin a treat, smells great (but not in a way that will clash with any fragrance you’re wearing) and is quickly absorbed so it does’t stick your clothes. Importantly for men, it’s also lightweight enough not to get stuck in any body hair you may have. With an affordable pricepoint of £4.49 you don’t need to be skimpy with it either.

I’m a huge fan of Bulldog, not just because it flies the flag for British skincare, but because of its ethics (all its products are loaded with natural ingredients, free of chemical nasties like sodium laureth sulphate and none are tested on animals.) More than that, though, they’re fantastic value for money and actually work. I absolutely love this new addition to the range and reckon you will too.

Available from Sainsbury’s from May. For more information go to meetthebulldog.com

Coming soon…The Molton Brown Sport Collection

MOLTON BROWN SPORT COLLECTONSo iconic is Molton Brown‘s Re-Charge Black Pepper Body Wash that everything the company releases has to be judged against it. A firm favourite with men (and the recipient of a clutch of Men’s Health Grooming Awards) it’s a truly fabulous product and one that’s just as good after a late night or long flight as it is after a work out. So their latest Sport Collection – aimed specifically at active types – has a lot to live up to.

A trio of high-performance products the range features a 4-in-1 Sportwash, muscle-warming  Sportbalm and obligatory Anti-Perspirant Stick, each featuring the refreshing scent of cassia bark, nutmeg and lime. Of the three products the 4-in-1 Sportwash is by far the most interesting. In keeping with the current trend for multi-fuctional grooming products it not only acts as a shower gel, shampoo and facial cleanser but as a transparent shaving gel too.

As a range it’s great and is certainly a welcome addition to any gym or sports bag but does it live up to the aforementioned Black Pepper Body Wash? Well, let’s just say they set the bar mighty high with that product…

The Molton Brown Sport Collection is available from Niven & Joshua.

Give your skin a sporting chance with Palmer’s MEN Cocoa Butter Formula Body & Face Lotion

PALMER'S MEN BODY & FACE LOTIONWhenever people ask me what my best grooming tip is I often fire back with one simple word: moisturise! Of all the steps you can take to protect your looks it’s the probably the most important and, luckily, the simplest too.

It’s no good just looking after the stuff on your face though: you need to take care of the skin on the rest of your body too. This is especially important if you’re a gym-goer and shower a lot (all that hot water can strip skin of its natural oils) or play a lot of outdoor sport and subject your extremities to the elements.

Palmer’s MEN Cocoa Butter Formula Body & Face Lotion is the perfect way to moisturise both your face and body with one easy-to-use product. Containing skin-nourishing Vitamin E and high-quality Cocoa Butter it smells great and is ideal for keeping skin in tip-top condition, whether you’re an office worker or a rugby pro.

And speaking of rugby, to celebrate the Six Nations and the forthcoming Lions Tour Palmer’s are running a great competition where you can win one of 20 Palmer’s ‘Be Smooth’ packs (featuring a 250ml and 400ml Palmer’s MEN Body & Face Lotion, along with other Palmer’s products,  plus a selection of Kooga Rugby products including a rugby ball, watter bottle and sports bag. There’s also a Grand Prize you really won’t want to miss out on! For more info click here.

Palmer’s MEN Body & Face Lotion is available in the Bodycare section of the larger Boots, Sainsbury’s and Wilkinson.

Chanel hopes to surf towards success with Allure Homme Sport Extreme and Danny Fuller

There are several ways to create a big splash when you launch a new fragrance but for the unveiling of Allure Home Sport Extreme, Chanel has taken the literal approach by securing the talents of big wave surfer, photographer and model Danny Fuller.

The advertising films pull out all the stops too with Oscar winner Katherine Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Point Break, K-19:The Widowmaker) directing. Here’s one of them…

And the fragrance itself? Well, that builds on Allure Homme Sport’s phenomenal success as the sport fragrance for men by giving it a little more punch and a slightly more exhilarating edge thanks to mint, mandarin and clary sage. It’s not quite as spicy as Homme Sport but makes up for this by being all the more sexy as it dries down.

Available from 19th March priced £48 for 50ml Eau de Toilette Concentrée. For stockists call 020 7493 3836.

And just in case there are any unsatisfied surfing fans out there, here’s one final pic of Mr Fuller!
