Clarins Men Tanning Booster – an easy way to boost your summer colour

Getting a tan is one thing; keeping it another altogether. Come to think of it, if you’re fair-skinned like me, even the first part is a challenge. And that’s where self-tanners and bronzers can be useful. So popular have they become that the number of 16-24-year-old men using self-tanning products has gone up by a whopping 27% in the last year. To put a little colour into your cheeks (and forehead, chin and neck) you could just buy yourself a self-tanner, of course, or (and this is much more fun) you could instantly turn your existing moisturiser into a self-tanner with the help of ClarinsMen‘s clever little Tanning Booster.

To do this you simply add three drops of the Booster to your regular moisturiser, mix in the palm of your hand then apply evenly across your face and neck, taking care to wash your hands and to remove any excess moisturiser from your eyebrows and beard. It’s not a wash-off bronzer so the colour will stick around but because you’re applying a small amount you can build up the colour over time, stopping when you’re happy with the result – which will hopefully be before you come to resemble an endangered wood.

The instructions state, rather sternly, that it should be only used with a Clarins moisturiser but I’ve tried it with a couple of non-Clarins products and the results have been just fine so I’d be tempted to ignore that, especially as being able to pimp up your preferred moisturiser is the big bonus here. The instructions also warn against exceeding the ‘recommended dose’ and that’s one piece advice you definitely should stick too. After all, the objective is to look sun-kissed not oven-baked right?

Clarins launch 12 Days of Christmas survival kit for men

Available exclusively from Selfridges and selfridges.com the £65 kit features 12 skincare heroes hidden behind advent calendar doors that start on Christmas Day. If you’re a Clarins fan that represents a saving of £27 compared to the price of buying the products individually, so even if you can’t be bothered with the gimmicky advent calendar aspect (and  I can’t say I would be) it’s still a great buy.  Since it’s boxed and good-to-go it makes a fantastic gift too.

Selfridges have male grooming all wrapped up

Grooming Boxes are tricky things to get right. When GlossyBox attempted one I, like many people, was left rather underwhelmed, partly because the size of the samples seemed particularly stingy for the money.

For those of you unfamiliar with the concept the Grooming Box, it’s a way of collecting together a range of different grooming products, from a different array of brands, so that you get to sample their wares and they get to win you over. Quite often they feature smaller or travel-sized versions of well-known products (and on occasions really small samples).

selfridegs 1So, how does the first Grooming Box from Selfridges rate? Well, actually, it’s one of the best I’ve seen – if not the best. Featuring nine separate products from seven different brands – including personal favouries like Triumph & Disaster, Clarins, Molton Brown, Kiehl’s and Commes des Garcons – it’s generous in terms of products and scope and would be just as good a gift for someone as it is a great way to sample some fine brands for yourself. Sure, it might have been nice for them to have featured one or two more brands rather than featuring a trio of products from Scaramouche & Fandango but other than that small criticism I really can’t fault it, so well done Selfridges and I hope there’s another one in the pipeline for later in the year!

Spice up your life!

Thierry Mugler’s A*Men fragrance is one of those classic polarising scents. You either love it or run screaming like you’ve been the victim of a gas attack. Personally, I’ve always been somewhat in the latter camp. It’s way too sweet and sickly for me but I know loads of people who love it and do you know what? At least it’s distinctive – a rare and underestimated quality for men’s fragrances these days (check out Hugo’s rather ironically named Just Different if you want proof).

Anyway, fans of A*Men might want to check out Mugler’s new limited edition version A*Men The Taste of Fragrance – a version ‘magnified’ with the addition of a hot chili pepper note. The lavish press kit is full of nonsense about the foody inspiration behind it but all you really need to know is that the familiar, sweet, vanillary fragrance is still there but has been pimped up with the peppers.

I have to say this works remarkably well, adding a spicy and earthy edge to things, giving it a slightly more masculine feel in the process. Fear not, if you like your scents strong it’s still powerful enough to be classed as a WDM, but  is far less likely to scare old ladies and children. And what  more can I say other than Amen for that?
