Aveda Men opens new pop-up Grooming Station in London’s Fitzrovia

AVEDA___A3970-2Estée Lauder have been doing some rather clever things with their men’s brands of late. Where once they were fiercely competitive with one another, brands like Clinique For Men, Aveda, Lab Series, Tom Ford and Zegna have been happily hanging out together in a show of unity that’s both refreshing and, as it happens, extremely practical. As well as their excellent men’s grooming station in London’s Westfield White City, curated by Esquire magazine, a new pop-up Grooming Station has just, you know, ‘popped-up’ in London’s Fitzrovia.

AVEDA___A4503At its heart is an Aveda Men Barbershop where you can have express hair cuts, trims and beard tidies, but as well products from Aveda itself you can also investigate fragrance from Tom Ford and Zegna and skin care from Lab Series and Clinique, meaning all your grooming needs can be met in  one quick in-and-out visit.

Men tend to be magpies when it comes to their skin care, hair care and fragrance choices, cherry-picking products from different ranges depending on what they like and what suits their skin, so it makes perfect sense for Lauder to offer the very best of their men’s brands in one go. In a way, they’ve done the edit for you and as we all know, it’s all in the edit.

The Aveda Grooming Station is located at 6 Mortimer Street, London W1F 3JJ and l be open until August. To keep up with what’s happening there check out @AvedaUK #groomingstation

Aveda’s little helpers for men with thinning hair

AVEDAGood news if you’re a guy with thinning hair: one of my absolute favourite brands, Aveda, are about to launch two new products designed to meet the needs of those with thatches that, you know, ain’t quite as thick as they used to be. Since there’s a wealth of evidence to suggest that scalp health is crucial to heathy hair both products focus on maintaining a clean, healthy scalp – getting to the root of the problem you might say. The Invati Men Nourishing Exfoliating Shampoo does exactly what it says on the tin, nourishing and strengthening hair to minimise breakage whilst exfoliating the scalp with the help of salicylic acid. The exfoliation bit is useful because it helps remove the excess oil and dead skin cells that can hinder hair growth if left unchecked. As with all Aveda products it smells fantastic, too, thanks to an earthy blend of plant essences, including organic cedarwood and fir.

The Scalp Revitalizer, meanwhile, contains an ingredient that thickens the hair slightly at the root, so it appears a little fuller, whilst improving mirocirculation on the scalp to ensure the best environment for healthy hair. Right now, there’s still no scientific cure for thinning hair (gene therapy may be our best option in the future) but until there is men are going to do whatever they can to hang onto what they have – and these two products are well worth having in your grooming armoury.

Available from Aveda salons/spas and online from May.

Aveda light the way for Earth Month

AVEDA Light the Way CandleBeing a cynical and decidedly curmudgeonly old fogey I’m always rather suspicious of brands’ charity initiatives – especially brands who say they’re giving an undisclosed percentage of their profits to a good cause. Aveda, however, are one brand that have always had their heart firmly in the right place when it comes to giving and in an admirable act of transparency (not to mention generosity) they’re donating 100% (yes, all) of the £16 RRP of their new limited edition Light The Way scented candle to the Global Greengrants Fund –  a non-profit organisation that funds groups working to solve pressing environmental problems.

Aveda have been working with the fund since 2007 so you can safely say they’re not bandwagoning either. The initiative comes as part of Aveda’s support of Earth Month this April and the candle –  a mix of warm, sweet Madagascan spice –  smells lovely so check out the Aveda site from April to grab one and to do a whole lot of good in the process.

Aveda aim to be London’s top grooming destination with mix ‘n’ match treatment menu

182-1

Aveda is a brand that’s already exceptionally good for men thanks to a superb male grooming range and top-notch hair care products. But things just got a whole lot better thanks to the launch of the Aveda Men Grooming Destination.

Aveda Men Grooming Destination Picture 02Based at the Aveda Lifestyle Salon & Spa in London’s Covent Garden, it offers 11 male grooming services – from a basic Trim and Tidy to a Detoxifying Scalp Cleanse, Barber’s Cut-Throat Shave and a Beard Perfection treatment (which I’m itching to try). Especially good, though, is the express menu which features a range of treatments that you can easily squeeze into a lunch hour or just before an all-important date. At just £15 a pop their Express Refresh Facial and Express Men’s Manicures are especially good. What’s more, you can mix ‘n’ match treatments to create your own ‘super treatment’, depending on how much time you have to spare and how high maintenance you are.

Those that know me well know I’m generally treatment averse (which is rather annoying given my job) but looking through the menu I’m struck by how many of these treatments I’d actually  have. What impresses me most about them, however, is that they’re fast, fuss-free and affordable. So if you live in London, or are just visiting, make sure you swing by. Trust me, your face, hair and beard will thank you for it.
